Vegan Burgers at Fat Hippo

Fat Hippo has migrated to greener pastures!

Vegan food may not be the first thing you associate with the Fat Hippo, but as one of the fastest growing consumer trends of 2018, things are about to change ...

Our exciting new vegan dishes have just been unveiled, designed to replicate the signature Fat Hippo ‘good kind of gluttony’ in a way everyone can enjoy our trademark taste.

Our managing director Michael Phillips pushed for the additions and in his words, ‘Everyone is welcome here at the Fat Hippo. Meat-eaters, vegetarians, vegans and those with food intolerances. The food industry is changing and so are we. We want you to be able to enjoy our food in the way that suits you. Veganism, vegetarianism, pescetarianism and flexitarianism - we’ve covered all bases with some exciting new meat-free options guaranteed to intrigue your carnivorous friends.’

The four new mouth-watering vegan burgers, designed by Executive Chef Michael Johnson, aim to offer a range of well thought-out, tasty, textured dishes, still embracing the signature Fat Hippo style. ‘We have gone all out working with our trusted local suppliers to develop our bespoke range of vegan ingredients. From patties to sauces, some new and some of our own adjusted especially for the vegan market.’

‘We have worked closely with Darlington based Hooba Foods to create two bespoke patties, again aiming to give different tastes and textures. Our artisan bakery Great Northern Bakehouse, (also based in Darlington) who produce 6000 brioches for us per week have also developed a vegan brioche with the addition of sesame and poppy seeds.’

The menu launches company-wide today including new burgers, starters and lunch options with a promise of desserts and shakes to follow. One thing’s for sure, any token veggie burger hidden at the bottom of their menu is now a thing of the past.
