Introducing the Fat Hippo Family

Fat Hippo was born from a love of great burgers. Back in 2010, there weren’t any great burger joints in the North East, so we decided to launch a brand that would change that. And so the Fat Hippo was born.

Over the years we’ve grown up a little but our ethos has always stayed the same: we do the good kind of gluttony. Specialising in mouth-watering, gourmet burgers using locally sourced ingredients.

Our menu isn't the biggest but we take the time to do one thing well. With our gourmet toppings and quirky combinations, our burgers are anything but basic though. Served juicy and pink in a toasted brioche bun, we’re committed when it comes to consistency. But we don’t get too caught up with cutlery and table manners. This is good, old-fashioned, roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-it-all-over-your-face food.
