Fat Hippo are looking for a new Area Head Chef to join our team.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 5 years of Head Chef experience (required) and 8 years of Chef experience (preferred)
  • Preferably based in Nottingham with a willingness to travel
  • Ability to follow and enforce company specifications and hygiene standards
  • Good organisational skills
  • Enthusiastic individual who is able to motivate others
  • Strong team leader
  • Driven individual who always wants to push boundaries and hit targets
  • Someone who can train and elevate the level of other staff members at all times

For the role of Area Head Chef at Fat Hippo, you must be familiar with working in an incredibly fast paced kitchen whilst maintaining high specification standards. Working closely with our Executive Chef and other Area Head Chefs, you will be provided with full training in all our systems and procedures to provide you with the best opportunities for success.

Responsible for kitchen operations

Under the Executive Chef, you will be the second line of contact, providing daily support and taking direction for the week ahead.

Recruitment and management of on-site management team

You will support the Executive Chef by building a solid team and structure. Self sufficiency is key and will decrease the need to long term micromanage.

You will also be responsible for the full training and development of staff, encouraging in house promotion should an opportunity arise.

Instilling enthusiasm

You will promote a good work ethic and mentality with a can-do attitude, working alongside Front of House Managers, Assistant Managers, Supervisors and staff.

Complete understanding of all internal system with a problem solving initiative

In times of mechanical, breakdown or power failures, being able to cope with stressful and complicated situations is key.

Menu costing and profitability

You will be working towards set margins, maintaining cost effective and quality throughout.

Aware of current trends

You will have awareness of pricing and products as well as awareness of competitors in areas of new sites and vegan markets.

Full training package, standardising sites, training and follow ups

Whilst maintaining consistency across the group, you will be responsible for the training record and adaptations. 

Liaising with senior management

You will be flexibly able to problem solve during out of hours and inconvenient times whilst maintaining clear lines of communication with the Senior Management team. 

Recruitment for new sites

Alongside the Executive Chef, you will be responsible for the recruitment and assembly of new kitchen teams. You will be conducting staff training as well as ensuring the new openings are maximised to full potential.

You will be willing to live in temporary accommodation close to the new opening site to enable maximum input developing and supporting new staff as well as allowing self-sufficiency and handovers to go smoothly.

Monthly site visits

Working in tandem with the Executive Chef, you will carry out monthly site visits to discuss mystery customer visits and direct feedback, monitor stock control, staffing and wage %, profit and loss. You will provide further training as well as monitor maintenance and upkeep through scheduled and surprise visits.
